o If yes, you may request your nomination to your home institution;

o If no, you may file your application process as a free mover student;

• Submit your application. All the required information can be found HERE, including all the details for the application. Undergraduate courses at UPM are taught in Portuguese. There are some course subjects that are offered in English, depending on the course semester.

For non-Portuguese speaking students, MPU recommends a level B/Intermediate of Portuguese Language upon arrival. 

MPU offers Portuguese classes to its incoming students. You can find further information here. If you are interested, please let us know at incoming@mackenzie.br.

The deadlines are:

• May 20th for the Spring semester (from August to December)

• October 20th for the Fall semester (from February to June) 

Students from partner universities (including ERASMUS students) must check with your home institution about tuition and fees exemption/reduction.

Free movers students can find information regarding tuition HERE. (In order to check the tuition, please select the course and scroll down to the field "Mensalidade" – which means monthly payments). Tuitions change semesterly.

Non-credit Enrollment:

Those who are not regularly enrolled at MPU but have concluded/are concluding their higher education can enroll in up to two (2) On-line courses from a list of available subjects. The monthly fee for each subject is R$ 929.00 for the lenght of six months.

Those interested in Non-credit enrolling must send an e-mail to incoming@mackenzie.br.

 

Regular Enrollment:

Foreigners who concluded their undergraduate studies also can enroll in one of our Master and Doctoral programs, taking the full course and receiving a degree at the end. You can find a list with our programs here. 

The application process is online and there is a registration fee of R$100.

There are some specific requirements for your enrollment:

    • To hold a Diploma of undergraduate degree for Master's course;
    • To hold a Diploma of master’s degree for Doctoral’s course translated by Brazilian certified translator.
    • If you have already applied in one of the Special Programs from the Brazilian Government, like PEC-PG (Programa de Estudante-Convenio de Pós-Graduação) or PAEC (Programa de Alianças para a Educação e Capacitação) or BRAMO (Programa de Formação de Professores Universitários de Moçambique), your admission process will be run through the Special Program, not through MPU’s.

The application process and all phases are online to international candidates that are not located in Brazil. The stages of our admission process are:

Stage 1 - Interview

  1. The candidate must be interviewed, which will happen through web conference software;
  2. The scheduling of the interview will be arranged by the Graduate Program, through e-mail or phone.

Stage 2 - Language Proficiency Test

  1. The candidate is required to show proof of proficiency in one of the foreign languages required for the graduate course. If the required language is the mother tongue, no proof is necessary. Otherwise, the candidate must present a proficiency certificate accepted by the course. The information about accepted certificates is available at the regulation of the graduate course website (here).

Admissions requirements are:

    • To hold a Diploma of undergraduate degree for Master's course;

The Brazilian government (Ministry of Education) and other institutions offer outside scholarship through the international programs with specific countries or regions. The ongoing are:

  • Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Pós-Graduação (PEC-PG): Doctoral and Master scholarships in Brazilian to university professors, researchers, professionals and higher education graduates from developing countries which Brazil has an Educational, Cultural or Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement. According to the last call (2022) for the program, the partner countries are: South Africa, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Algeria, Benin, Barbados, Bolivia, Botswana, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Cameroon, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, El Salvador, Ecuador, Gabon , Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Guinea-Bissau, India, Haiti, Honduras, Iran, Lebanon, Jamaica, Mexico, Mali, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Mozambique, Namibia, Paraguay, Peru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Republic of Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, Venezuela, Senegal, Syria, Thailand, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tunisia and Turkey.   • PAEC OEA-GCUB (Programa de Alianças para a Educação e Capacitação): Doctoral and Master scholarships in Brazilian to students of high academic level, with a leadership trajectory and with a high potential for impact in their countries of origin. The program is a partnership between The Organization of American States (OAS), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (CGBU) and Educational Themes Division (DCE) from Ministry of External Relations (MRE). This program is available to candidates from 34 OAS member countries, except Brazil. Further  information about this program can be found here.
  •  PROAFRI (Programa de Formação de Professores de Educação Superior de Países Africanos): Doctoral and Master scholarships in Brazilian to university professors that are from Africa. The program is a partnership between Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (CGBU) and other institutions. The last call was offered to university professors from Mozambique.   • Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral opportunities to study or research in Brazil. Further  information about this program can be found here.
  • Erasmus + (Studying Abroad): Erasmus+ helps organise student and doctoral candidate exchanges within Erasmus+ Programme countries and to and from Partner countries, wich one is Brazil. The study period abroad can last from a minimum of 3 months (or 1 academic term or trimester) to a maximum of 12 months. Further  information about this program can be found here.
  • Afidavit Science and Law School Scholarship: scholarship to undergraduate, masters and doctoral level students in Science and Law schools. It's open to sponsor international students from all over the world to study for free in any Science or Law school under 1000 QS University Rank. Further  information about this program can be found here.

Classes are taught in Portuguese, therefore for non-Portuguese speaking students MPU recommends a level B/Intermediate of Portuguese Language upon arrival.

The MPU does not require validation for master’s course if your undergraduate certificate is from a foreign institution.

If your Master’s diploma is from a foreign institution, it might require translation by Brazilian certified translator.

If you are not already living in Brazil, you will be required to obtain a VITEM IV (Student). This type of visa is intended for foreign students travelling to Brazil to undertake the following activities: regular courses, study exchange or research exchange.

  • Regular courses comprise primary and secondary levels of education; undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (specialization, master's and doctor's degrees); technical and language courses. Regular must be offered by education institutions that hold a Corporate Taxpayer Identification Number (CNPJ);
  • Study or research exchanges involve the improvement of academic qualification by sharing knowledge and experiences within the academic environment, such as: participation in "sandwich" and university collaboration programs, carrying out part of the master's / doctor's research, doing one's compulsory undergraduate / postgraduate study module abroad (commonly called "year abroad", often the third year);
  • Foreign nationals travelling to Brazil for post-doctoral research / studies must apply for a VITEM I, not a VITEM IV, as they are classified as researchers, not students;

For studies or exchanges with duration of up to 90 days, the applicant must request a Visitor Visa (VIVIS).

Visa process:

The visa must be obtained before the student´s entrance in Brazil. When the applicant is accepted, MPU will send a LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE that will to obtain a visa at a Brazilian Consulate.

The process may take a few weeks, so begin early. Also, a personal visit to the consulate may be required. The documents required are:

  • Valid passport (expiration date at least 6 months after your arrival date in Brazil);
  • Application form filled;
  • Two passport size photo;
  • Letter of Acceptance;
  • Proof of financial means in Brazil;
  • Proof of health insurance valid in Brazil;
  • Proof of non-criminal record;
  • A copy of your birth certificate with both parents’ full names
  • A copy of your travel itinerary;

 

Important: you should contact the consulate to validate the procedure, which might differ from city, state or country.
