Lines of Research

Heterogeneous Materials and Composites
This line of study focuses on materials formed by two or more materials, whether chemically compatible or not (for example: metal alloys, metal-ceramics, and polymeric composites), which exhibit final properties that are significantly superior or even distinct from the constituent materials. Furthermore, the development of new materials with high performance in their physical and chemical properties for industrial applications is studied, as well as the surface modification of materials through advanced technologies.

Nanomaterials
This line focuses on the synthesis, study of properties, and application of nanostructured materials whose properties differ from those observed in the same materials at a macroscopic scale. In particular, 2D materials such as graphene, graphene oxide, and transition metal dichalcogenides are studied. In this context, the aim is to develop and apply these materials in photonic devices, optical and electrochemical sensors, biomaterials, and transparent conductive films.

Applied chemistry
This line studies the development and new applications of a wide range of materials, methodologies, or spectroscopic/spectrometric techniques in various chemical problems, such as in the biomedical and clinical fields, in sensors, water and wastewater treatment, energy storage and production, forensic sciences, and in the quality control of pharmaceuticals, food, fuels, or cosmetics.
