Mandatory Scheduled Activity

The Mandatory Programmed Activity (MPA) is a requirement for students in Master's and Doctoral programmes, aimed at complementing their academic and scientific training. The activity must be completed before the submission of the dissertation or thesis.

The MPA may include the acceptance or publication of articles in journals, the publication of books or book chapters, the presentation of abstracts or full papers at scientific events, or the submission of patents. Specific activities and the required credits may vary according to the programme's regulations.

Information for students admitted until the 2nd semester of 2021
Master's degree

The student must earn 2 credits in programmed activities before submitting the Master's dissertation.

The necessary credits to fulfil the mandatory programmed activities for the Master's course can be obtained through:

I – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) article in a journal (Qualis B1 to B4 and/or) - 2 credits
II – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) book or 1 (one) book chapter and/or - 2 credits
III – 2 (two) abstracts presented at a scientific event and/or - 2 credits
IV – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) full paper at a scientific event and/or - 2 credits
V – 1 (one) patent filed - 2 credits

Doctorate

The student must earn 8 credits before submitting the Doctoral thesis.

The necessary credits to fulfil the mandatory programmed activities for the Doctoral course can be obtained through:

I – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) article in a journal (Qualis A1 to B1 and/or) - 8 credits
II – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 2 (two) book chapters and/or - 8 credits
III – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) book and/or - 8 credits
IV – ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) article with Qualis B2/B3 plus 1 (one) published book chapter and/or - 8 credits
V – 1 (one) patent filed - 8 credits



Information for students admitted from the 1st semester of 2022 onwards:
Master's degree

The student must earn 4 credits in programmed activities before submitting the Master's dissertation.

The necessary credits to fulfil the mandatory programmed activities for the Master's course can be obtained through:

I – 'Submission', 'Acceptance' or 'Publication' of 1 (one) article in a journal (Qualis A1 to B4) - 4 credits
II – Patent 'Filed' or 'Granted' - 4 credits
III – Other Relevant Technical Production (ORT) - 4 credits

Doctorate

The student must earn 12 credits before submitting the Doctoral thesis.

The necessary credits to fulfil the mandatory programmed activities for the Doctoral course can be obtained through:

I - ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) article in a journal (Qualis A1 to A4) - 12 credits
II - ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Publication’ of 1 (one) article in a journal (Qualis B1 to B4) - 4 credits
III - Patent Filed - 6 credits
IV - Patent Granted - 12 credits
V - Other Relevant Production (ORP) - 6 credits

Notes:

1. Other relevant technical productions (ORT) must comply with the definition provided by the CAPES area – Materials;
2. The doctoral student must be the first author of the programmed activity (PA) to be validated, or have shared first authorship with another collaborator indicated in the PA itself;
3. For each PA production, a copy of the production in question must be submitted along with proof of ‘submission’, ‘acceptance’, ‘publication’, ‘filing’, or ‘granting’ for validation with the PPGEMN Coordination;
4. In the case of technology transfer, in addition to descriptive documentation, a letter from the partner company confirming the development is required.

The proofs of the PA, as well as the updated Lattes Curriculum, must be sent by email to the Programme's secretariat (materiais.pos@mackenzie.br), along with the specific Mandatory Programmed Activity form for the course.
